• Luggage cover you can size yourself. Explorer's optional luggage cover goes up to $10,000, but a backpacker carrying a pack, a phone and a battered laptop can select a lower limit and pay less. Cover what you actually carry.
• The motorcycle and moped pack. Scooters are the backpacker vehicle of Southeast Asia, and unlicensed riding is the most common reason claims get declined across the industry. Hold the right licence, wear a helmet, add the pack, and riding becomes a covered activity instead of a gap.
